Yamuna ghaat...What is the first thing that runs to your minds when I say this? Yes! The spot where Krishna would play his mellifluous flute; break the pots of makhan(butter) with his associates, bathe in its cool waters, dance in the twilight with all the gopis, Romance with his favorite Radharani. Ever thought how much of a glorified spot it is? It is not regarded as one of the most romantic places on Earth but, think, if the banks of Yamuna is the place Our dearmost Krishna chose to enchant the enchantresses themselves and perform all of the numerable amazing pastimes ,then how much of beauty that spot can hold??!! How many chapters of romance, mischief, love, devotion , admiration and heartfelt emotions it has seen. The banks of Yamuna are very beautiful in their own regard; after all, anything associated with Krishna is very beautiful ,right? (despite of the pollution and degradation it is unfortunately going through now because of careless human interference).
So here's a bhajan. In it is a girl (gopi) whose every wish and desire to do anything and everything with her Kanha starts and ends on the sacred banks of Yamuna. Every thought of hers is directed towards taking krishna to that spot and fulfilling her wishes there. She loves the spot because He Loves the spot!
PS: I wrote this after watching news abt Yamuna river pollution etc. I was so touched. So I went back some thousands of years in my imagination and saw the river again...but clear and shining this time. [and saw him playing his flute :) ]

And u can bet that this is my fav line in all!!!
Sarathy ke sang mein....... :)))))
@ILWK: yeah exactly! the pic is so situational coz the mood is romantic,it's sunset time, and The Yamuna river on the side after all!
ReplyDeleteYeah I had a psychic feeling abt that line when i typed it in...I knew it would be your fav. Actually, when i was still composing the lyrics and had to put one of krishna's names in, i thought why not ILWK's fav call to him... PSP!
@tanvee: xxx
ReplyDeletethanks..i mean, it is such a beautiful, beautiful thought-the whole poem...and PSP at the very last stanza!!
He is the Sarathy who directs our hearts to His feet!!!
Come to Chennai sometime, tanvee :)
Come visit PSP!
One extra thing abt the pic: the girl definitely came to take water from the river :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, then Krishna surprised her from nowhere, much to her maddening delight!
So, she left the poor water-pot down, and just went in His flow!
And, the one whose Feet the Yamuna was yearning to kiss just caressed her hands so smoothly!!
Hey Tanvee,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! really hope your sakhi passes on the message:-)))
I have heard an interesting story of how river Yamuna envied River Ganga as river Ganga has the glory and bliss of being associated with our dear Vishnu's beautiful feet.
Yamuna too craved for the association of our beloved Sri Hari and was granted with such a wonderful & satisfying boon to enjoy his presence and revel in his beautiful pastimes. So right from the moment when our little sweet Krishna was brought to Vrindavan in a basket carried by Vasudevar , River Yamuna had his beautiful association..We all know about it..she rose up flooding the area just to touch & kiss HIS beautiful feet:-) LUCKY YAMUNA:-))) Glory to her!!!! May she regain all her charm very soon!

ReplyDeleteO Blessed Water!
O The water of the blessed river:
Tell me about my dear lover!
How the sweetness of His touch sanctified You,
And gave you life anew!
Tell me how you His lotus feet cleansed,
And, with that sweet water yourself cleansed!
Tell me how your blessed water entered His mouth-
And felt the nectar that i have sought!
Tell me how He held you in His cupped palm,
Tell me about His infinite charm;
Tell me what it was like to touch His curly locks-
And, thus free yourself from all the chains with double locks.
Tell me about His endless eyes on which you were splashed,
Tell me about His luscious lips that You so luckily touched.
Tell me about that cloud-complexioned boy,
Who played with you like you were His toy.
When you washed the serene radiance of His face:
Was it not like You were washing the sun's rays?
Tell me, when you touched Him in every place:
Weren't you playing with the World's solace?
They say in your waters are lost the impure-
For you are among the most pure-
But, when the One who made you pure- the Purest of the Pure
Straddled in you, wasn't He making your impure pure?
Oh! You served Him so wonderfully,
What a day when the Lord played in your water joyfully.
Not capable of serving Him, my state is sorry:
May He bless me to serve Him beautifully!
ILWK: your poem abt Yamuna has left me awestruck. It's so beautiful!! Speechless, I am...
